14. Varnish

Time to unify the colours of the wood a bit. I've been waiting until I got most of the parts so I could pick the right colour to tie it all together. I've gone for a kind of salted-caramel brown. My own personal taste is for dark wood, but I think in this case it would look a bit too obviously spooky. So I've gone with a very friendly, welcoming, foody, warm colour. I'm letting it's own spookiness speak for itself without highlighting it. I think that makes it less obvious, and more unsettling for those who are creeped out by it.

I've sanded everything down and made sure it's clean and ready.

I'm using a water-based combination stain and varnish. I wouldnt recommend it for a really good look, but for this I want a clunky but loving hobbyist aesthetic, and I like this finish because it makes things look like giant models.
